I officially retired my API test kits and got a Red Sea nitrate test kit today. API always showed 0 N and I didn’t believe it lol. In the end it was low but not 0. The Red Sea test kit is showing somewhere between 1 and 2 ppm and P is somewhere between 0 and .02. I recall seeing somewhere there is a desire N:P ratio but I can’t seem to find it.

I do not recommend a ratio as a desirable target (any ratio makes no sense to me).

Target both to desirable levels. Say, 0.2 to 5 ppm nitrate and 0.01 to 0.05 ppm phosphate.
