I would say yes, you are very overstocked. The yellow tang and the blue tang alone overstocks your tank. Best bet would be to rehome them as a 180L is to small for both of them. Also how often and how much are you doing for water changes?

okay thanks :) well i have actually been looking for a 450-600L tank for a while now. i hope that it would be enough to solve the problem. im doning about 50L waterchange once a week some weeks even more.

Overstocked. No tang should be in a ~45 gallon DT, let alone three.
would it matter if the total whit sump is 60 gallons? i have had these fish for about 2 years now and never had a problem (besides extremly high no3)
well anyways i think im going to get a 600L insted would it do the trick? :)

No, it's not really a water volume issue, nor a nitrate issue. I just think it's cruel to put naturally active swimmers in such a small tank with other naturally active swimmers. The blue and sailfin tangs will get very big for that size tank. I would upgrade to a 500+ liter tank as soon as possible or remove some of your bioload, not only to relieve your nitrate problem, but also for the sake of the fish's livelihood.

Welcome! That many fishes you are bound to run high NO3. How old is the tank? IMHO I'd get rid of the tangs and the fox face. That should help reduce your NO3.

The water volume is not the primary concern, it's the swimming room. Tangs swim up to dozens of miles a day in the wild. Putting them in a two foot cube gives them very little room to swim. Blue tangs alone can grow up to a foot in length. In a 45g, they would barely have enough room to turn around, let alone swim enough to stay healthy.

A 600L tank is a much better option for tangs.

Im looking for a tank right now im not ready to let go of my fish so i rather buy a 650 tank. Ive had them like this for 2 years and the guy before me had them like this for 4 years. Ive never experienced any sickness or death so i have been lucky i guess.
