Noahs 40G mixed minimalist reef

20180201_164423.jpg a small addition to the tank came in today :) The light was a spur of the moment purchase....thought it was a lot smaller......will have to mount it high above the refugium and see if I get some greener cheeto. A water change tonight and then I can setup the doser :) very excited to see how things react when the swings are all gone.

I did my setup for the doser and have the first pump adding 80ml of RO water per hour to help stabilize my salinity. And running 12ml of two part during lights off at 1ml at a time. My calcium levels are stabilize but it's not using up the alkalinity so I'm only dosing 2 ml at night.

We also added two little black and white clowns to the tank.

I have had dry live rock leaching in a container for the last 5 days. today i pulled some out and cleaned it off. and put it into the tank. went from 20# live rock to 30 in the DT, and another 3# in the sump. I have enough left over to make a nano tank at work :D

Since changing out the light my chaeto has doubled in size! Just did a water change and here is the water from two of my refugium chambers. The one on the top is the water going into the chaeto, and the bottom is the return chamber. I'm amazed at how filtered it is. I'll have to run tests on the two chambers to get the parameter differences :) 20180216_223011.jpg

How did you come up with 80ml per hour water? I would suggest an auto top of to add water as needed for stability

Yeah I'm on the same page, it' been a lot of adjusting and still having to top off a couple cups a day. I have the float sensor and just haven' had time to program the new arduino

I took out the rock connecting the two large rock formations 30 minutes ago lol. It just didn't look right. Otherwise i didn't change anything else. And I made the silly looking frag racks from spare lexan sitting around. I just tossed it on the drill press and made some holes while things were acclimating. Need to measure one out and line up the holes and make it look nice. Lots of corals in the tank. The wife likes the euphyllias so that's
why so many!

lots of time has passed since my last update. Since the last updates we bought corals, lost corals, bought more corals. Have fought the red algae monster and won. Fought green hair algae and won. Fought the aphasia monster and still cutting off the occasional head that pops up. Even enlisted some fist help to keep them at bay but it instead got a hankering for and eat 95% of my leptastrea colonies. He was promptly returned from hence he came. It was very difficult to not have him walk the plank. Have plucked fields of bubble algae and stopped their spread. Found that we were not ready for SPS hard corals. Found that weekly water changes in this small of a system are a must. And learned the hard way of what happens when you neglect the system for a month. So here are some close ups of what is thriving.
