What common (walmart) items can I use under my submerged return pump to dampen the sound?

Alright I'll give that a try. Let me know if anyone claims they may be toxic. Thanks.

Not toxic. I have used them for years with no ill effects.

dantimdad: Isn't there usually a piece of cloth glued to the rubber on a mouse pad? Do you remove the cloth or throw the whole thing in or are there pure rubber pads?

mfinn: Those look like something to have on hand! Thanks.

The best thing is non ridgid piping. Even if you are using PVC for the plumbing, use a short section of clear or clear reinforced tubing directly off the pump for few inches before transitioning to PVC. Another is make sure all your plumbing lines up perfectly. Even a slight bind will cause and transmit vibrations and sound. I also use a plain rubber mousepad for noisy pumps, never had a problem. Other things I have heard used are a heavy ziploc bag filled with sand under the pump and squirting a ball of silicone on the rubber suction cups and allowing it to dry so you have bigger "feet".

I get the pure rubber mouse pads with no cloth.

I have used a rubber jar opening grip as well.

Great ideas! I didn't even think about the noise that is going to come from the pump to pvc junction. I'll be picking some tubing up today.
