I recently set up a Innovative marine 75ext. I have 2 mp10qd on one side and a mp40 on the other. When my mp40 ramps up I seem to get a lot of noise rushing in to my overflow and it's really noisy. Is there any way to quiet it down. The 2 mp10s are in sync at 100% and ther mp40 at 75% anti sync. The return pump is a vectra m1 running about 33% 4 of the 12 dots lit up.

Pictures of your setup would help. What are you controlling the main siphon with?

I will try and get a picture later tonight. I'm using a gate valve to control it. It's almost dead silent if I turn the flow down on the vortechs.

If a flow pump in the tank is making the overflow noisy it must be pushing water against the weir. You cant aim a mp40 so you would have to move it until it stops.

If I move it much lower it starts to kick up the sand. Left and right didn't seem to help either. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure people are running more flow than I have. I haven't tried running a higher flow through the sump. Just wondering if that would help.

Is the noise coming from the bean animal plumbing or from water entering the overflow? If it's coming from the bean animal, is the surface agitation is enough to cause agitation in the overflow? That could possibly cause air to occasionally get into the full siphon. Just a guess. If so, WVNed's solution should help.

Video great idea. I will try to get one tonight or tomorrow. The noise is coming from the overflow weir.
Then it's probably the fact that the surface of the water in your tank is agitated enough to cause uneven flow through the weir resulting in some noise. How deep is your tank?

I found that the noise from the waterfall over the weir is very sensitive to waves or a surface flow perpendicular to the weir. One improvement I did was raise the water level in the overflow and it helped reduce the noise, but I still get some wave noise. I have stop the pulsing waves and lower the gyre flow when we watch a movie to keep it quiet.

Tank is 20 inches deep. I do have a crazy amount of surface agitation.

I'll join in on surface agitation noise. I have two MP60's and when they kick up I hear it. No difference in the overflow itself though that I can tell. It's just splashing into the overflow on and off.

+1
I have the same issue when my gyres cause excess surface agitation.

It sounds like I'm just going to have to get use to it. I don't want to turn down the flow. Thanks for everyone's help.

My wife has complained. She knows just enough about my Apex and profiles she asked me to make a "movie mode" profile so it's quiet, lol. Mine come and go though and most agitation is earlier in the day.

I never thought about lowering the flow just for a few hours in the evening. I don't have an apex but it would be simple enough to do from my reeflink. I was always trying to keep the flow as high as I could for the acros. They should be fine for 3 to 4 hours in the evening with lower flow right?

I'm no acro expert, but a few hours of lower flow I can't see as an issue. Many use profiles and change the flow on and off all day long. It would be "low tide" :)

One of the big advantages of a bean animal system is that it is si

My tank is 17 inches deep, so I have less vertical room to play with. I have my WAV powerheads about 1/3 to 1/2 way down from the surface to keep surface agitation reasonable and not blow my sand around too much. It's a balancing act.
