Noisy overflow

You cut it into the return line not the drain (green line). You want to control the water going from the sump back into the display aquarium. That'll slow what overflows down into the sump again.

When you think about it, if you slowed the drain and more water went into the display tank than can be drained it'll eventually overflow out of the aquarium. Slowing the return will mean that'll never happen as the drain can handle whatever goes into the display..

Just measure the inside of the green hose. It should be 20mm.

You can buy clear replacement tube (if needed) from Bunnings and most Aquarium shops.
Ahh right. What about the ball valve for the drain pipe? Slowing the exit down would work too no? I want to keep the flow rate the same

I've got the exact same tank bought about a week ago, and the sound(s) this thing makes are atrocious! I'll be writing to aqua one.

Lucky I'm not afraid to experiment and modify. I went with a ball valve in the sump allowing me to adjust the flow drastically reducing the noise. Got all of theses parts from local hardware store.

Also - where's your filter sock? They are kind of designed to reduce the noise (a little bit!)

Is that a 40mm Ball valve? Im in sydney and need to go to bunnings warehouse to have a look at one of these

I'm based in Australia, I got my things at "Bunnings Warehouse". I shouldn't take all the credit, I got some assistance building this modified pipe from my local Aquarium shop. (very kind of him!).

The parts I used were 40mm, and conduits and such.

I'm working on some plans to silence the overflow in the weir, the protein skimmer air intake (the horrible girgle it makes) and vibration. I'll link you in on anything I find that works. [emoji106]
what did you use to glue the bits together?

So I've recently got a Aqua One Mini Reef system (120L), link at the bottom. The system seems to work very well however the overflow drain is ridiculously noisy. Like I can hear falling water right now in another room.

The water flows through into the weir and down into the drain as per this picture (1 is down, 4 is return). It's falling into the sump and I believe this is where the noise is coming from. The sump is filled to the specified level.

Can I please have some advise on how to quieten this system.

A pair of leggings cut and an elastic band to hold them on its now silent

Thanks, I've sent an email to Aqua One. I'm reluctant to drill anything as I can't undrill it.

The one in the shop was quiet and yes I realise there would have been more noise being a shop however the shop was empty and I put my head in the sump and didn't hear any running water like I do.
Hi

I have bought the same tank and have exactly the same issue. I have extended the drain pipe into the sump so it’s well below the waterline but no joy. Did aquariums be come back to you ?
