Bought a Aquatic Life 115 skimmer a little while back and I’m near the end of my cycle so I decided to run it to break it in. It’s super loud! And yes, I did the airline mod but it’s the pump. I swear it’s a gas powered engine in there. Does anyone have any tips on how to dampen the noise?

I’ve had it for a year. It’s as loud as a jet engine, but it’s legit the best skimmer for a biocube 32/aio nano. It works amazingly well.

That good to hear but I’m not sure the wife will stand for it. Did you ever try to silence it in any way? Like stuff some foam or something in there?

I’ve tried a few things but no major difference. You get used to it eventually lol. If you keep it a little higher above the water it won’t pull water through the air intake. That’s where most of the noise is coming from I believe. That skimmer alone is louder than my entire 90/115 system lol

Did you add an air silencer to the air intake? If not, buy one, or make a diy. See if that’s not most of the noise

I did the airline mod already to get rid of the gurgling noise. The noise I’m hearing now is from the pump I’m pretty sure. It’s pretty bad.

Yup, the air mod stops the gurgling. A silencer stops the noise. Would try that first, to determine if it’s vibrating your hearing or air intake

Also, do you think this scape will work okay?
Thanks

Yea that looks awesome!

For me what was making the noise was the fact that the black screw with connects from the top of the air intake chamber to the black bottom piece was simply not tight. Tightened it up and the noise completely went away without having to restrict the amount of air intake in any way.
