Hi All,

I purchased a vertex omega 150 skimmer for my 75G DT (90G total volume) tank. It's been running now for a day or two, but is so darn noisy. It's not a vibration sound, and it's not really an air sucking sound, it is just loud! Any suggestions for reducing the sound? I currently put it on a timer so it kicks on at night when the lights are out and we're sleeping, but would like to keep my skimmer running 24/7. I might just be impatient, and need to let it break in, but figured I would ask.

Thanks!

Mine was so noisy the neighbour's below us heard mine. I put a simple sponge underneath the pump, it vibrated really loud. Fixed the problem. I also added some extra padding inside the silencer as the noise was hectic.

Yep that sucking sound is the loudest thing on my tank. Well except when the ATO runs.

What padding did you put in the silencer? I'm having some noise issues with my new vertex 150 as well. It's not really from the pump, I think it's from the air being sucked in.

I just cut up a little piece of kitchen sponge (new one) and twisted it into the intake for the air. Hope that makes sense.
