Non conventional reef keeping

The three hurting corals we got and are trying to save the birds nest and the other two I have a assorted tank so hard to figure out frags from the major store. We just received the octopus today after being in the box I try to open it up in the dark why I have coverings on the windows. I’d like to try grow some scolyomia and purple passion acros. Maybe get a clam. Sand been really helpful, when a frag falls though it’s like lava unless it’s clean. If the Hanna kits are not time consuming I might pick up or go octo only sell most of it. Problem is with the octopus I can’t dose really so I have to try get coral supplements naturally. I think I’m past the sand beds ability to cycle the tank so I would need to vacuum it out. I don’t want the bottom of the tank to crack so I need to add something plastic under the rock. I like the look of sand so it’s a toss up. You put the sand bed in you take the sand bed out you shake it all around.

Welcome :) Plus 1 on the test kits. As for dosing BRS has a good 2 part kit that you can buy or there is an all in one formula by tropic marin called all for reef. Definitely came to the right place!
I definitely have to look into all reef. I was watching a YouTube video sand the long hair guy said it needed a reboot every once in a while turning the power strip on and off every couple months been working. I think I want to try new way of things though. I used Kent marine for a while. There’s a lot more now and it’s confusing. Will this make coralline algee grow I’m reluctant to try additives because how easy this tank scratches.

I forgot to ask I trust wardley I don’t see much any more or even anything for saltwater. I ran out of fish flakes what reminded me. The switch broke on the powerstip now so I have to unplug the wires from the outlet to do a hard reset now. How long do I leave the outlet unplugged and I can’t find much on reset and reboot instructions. When I do turn the water back on it kickes up a lot of diritus though. So do you add a separate filter like a diatom filter are they still in use? Sometimes after reboot reset the skimmers won’t come on how I broke the switch and brought me to the forum.

Welcome to R2R! Good luck with the octopus -- and love the idea of a solar power setup.

confused on which switch is broken and the type of power strip. is it a smart strip like Kasa from amazon or like a $5 multi plug one

dont use wardley flakes switch to a quality pellet and frozen food diet. I use Bulk reef supply and NLS for pellets and frozen LRS fish frenzy. The tank looks like its off to a great start nonetheless
