I've got a 90g rimless with a six line wrasse and am looking to add another wrasse. I don't have a top so I've avoided fairy wrasses and others that are prone to jumping. Can anyone suggest a wrasse that is less likely to jump out of a tank? Are Melanerus jumpers?

The only non-jumping wrasses I know of are the ones laying on the floor dried out. I can promise you, they will never jump again :xd:

Other then that, its not if they will jump, but when!

All wrasse jump. Your testing your luck with the six line without a lid. Also, six lines often bully other wrasses.

I've had my Six Line in my 33L (48x12x12) now for a good 6 months with no issues. He stays low and swims crazy and fast through out the rock work. A blast to watch, lots of character. He's the only wrasses I own and would love to pick up another but am afraid as well that they'll try and carpet surf one day. Not a big fan of dead fish or throwing money away.

My six line jumped out and died. You will need a screen on the top to hold her in cuz as soon as you add another fish... I just wouldn't risk it buddy.

I thought I secured my tank by adding Acrylic panels on the sides with only a couple of 3-4 inch open spaces around tubing... and just lost my third wrass through those!!!
Adding net early next week!

Wrasses jump especially when the wake up in the morning they will do an arch swimming motion.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to put a screen on the top. I've had them before, I just didn't know how one would look on a rimless tank.

Also if you're going to add wrasses get rid of that a** of Sixline wrasse and all wrasses are jumpers

I agree with everyone all wrasse's jump I would highly recommend a screen top as for the sixline I would of added him last chances are he will fight with any new wrasse you put in the tank there is a possibility he won't but its a small one another good way to tell aggression is get an acclimation box I am a wrasse addict currently have 4 in my 75 never had an issue using one they are awesome fish good luck with everything

the 6 line will turn in a bully and will harass any other wrasse additions :squigglemouth:

Lost a clown to jumping and have vowed to always keep my systems covered. What is the downside to having a screen top to ensure the safety of our livestock?

I have a melanurus wrasse and added a yellow coris wrasse and have been lucky so far but definitely looking into screen top

This breaks my heart. It's only a matter of days before they attempt a jump & with no cover they will be goners no doubt. Funny story about wrasse I have a lot and I use a mesh screen above my rimless tank to keep them safe, and I would Forsure have lost some of them if I didn't have it because every once in a while I can hear them jump into it. So if that's not enough to make you want to make a screen please sell all your wrasse cause they are all in danger.

They have been in there for months and not a jumper yet but don't worry I will get a screen and remember not everyone has the same luck you do just because it happened to you doesn't mean will be same for everyone else
