I just got some stuff from a retiring reefer, and he gave me this weird Current branded protein skimmer. I looked it up and I can't find absolutely anything about it. I've also never had a protein skimmer, so I can't figure out how it works. I think the pump that came with it has a little part on the front where I'd attach a tube rom an air pump, but that's where my knowledge ends. So I assume the air and water enter the pump, forms the bubbles, then connects to the valve on the front, but there is another part with a sponge that looks like an intake.

Also, there is a blue knob for adjusting what I assume to be the level of the bubbles, but it makes no sense that it would be there if the input is that front black part.

The pump I got with it is labeled "Current PH2500"

If anybody knows where I can find instructions for this or how this works so I can get it up and running, that would be amazing.

Looks like you can run it as either an in sump or as an HOB skimmer. You need to find an appropriate skimmer pump, connect it with softt tubing to the barbed elbow fitting at the HOB mounting bracket. The blue knob on the output will adjust the flow through the body, which will dial in the skimmer.

Try going to the Coralife web site and see if it matches something. It looks very similar to other Coralife HOB skimmers.

Does anybody think it's worth setting up? the nano version of this product has HORRIBLE reviews because of nano bubbles, but if I install it before the baffles I have in my sump, I won't have that issue, right?

I was going to post I found another pump, but wasn't quite the one that came with it, but you have the pump!

Airline goes in the front on the little nipple, and a flexible hose will attach tot he top, and the nipple on the skimmer.

It looks like the nano was horrible, but this one had decent reviews.

That’s the skimmer pump. That nub on the intake plate is where you attach the airline tubing. Attach the output of the pump with soft tubing to the barbed elbow.

If you open that pump, it has a needle wheel impeller. No need for an airpump, it will draw in it's own air. You just need to connect an airline to it, so it's above water and can suck air.

Amazing! I got this all from a guy not too far from me who gave me a 40 gallon tank drilled with an overflow, plus his sump- all for free! I got pretty lucky huh?
