I got my first Favia the other day, I have a question, I already took it off the plug, but the Favia is sitting on like 1/2” of rock, or is it’s skeleton? Like I said first Favia so not sure how this coral works, does it have a thick skeleton under the pattern or is th just the tissue that lays on top?
My main question is can I cut out most of this rock so that it doesn’t grow around the cube in an awkward way before it states to spread around my rock, or should I leave it like this ?
Also if you know the name of this type of Favia that would be pretty pretty cool

That's skeleton. When favia, or most other lps, is fragged from a large colony the skeletons can be deep. I've had a lobo with a 6" high skeleton underneath.

Ok thank you, I thought it might the case, so just try and place the coral in a nice little nook in the rock, and let it do it’s thing?

You could saw it off if you have a hobbyist friend nearby with a bone saw or keep it as is.

Favias don't like to droop so they may slow down a tad when growing out. So if you don't cut off the skeleton, I'd maybe add some rubble or something around it.

They will spit out heads on the sides eventually though. Just make sure these receive light.
