hi all.. New here but had a sw tank 15 years ago or more. alot has changed. I have a questions on overflow. looking to get a 90 gal and do a mixed reef and some fish. starting all from scratch. diy tank stand as well.

With the overflow, I am looking to have everything as quiet as possible. would it be best to get the corner overflow in a deep blue 90 gal or the synergy reef ghost 16" overflow? recently watched a video on the synergy reef ghost and it sounded like a water fall. any opinions?

How you plumb your overflow, and how much water you drive through it, will greatly affect the noise level. That DBP corner overflow will come with parts for a Durso style overflow. At low flow rates, these can be fairly quiet. With a few bucks worth of plumbing, you can 'convert' that to a Herbie style drain, and it'd be even quieter, even with higher flow.

The Synergy, plumbed in Herbie or BeAnAnimal fashion, can be nearly silent.

Those are the three most used types of drain setups, Durso, Herbie, and BeAnAnimal... google it, you'll find tons of info.

Whichever you choose, you're going to want the water level in the overflow box, be it internal or external, to be very near the display water level. That way you don't have the waterfall noise at the top of the drain system.

Have fun with it :)

Agree with Greybeard. Not so much a factor of the overflow box itself provided you have sufficient linear length for the desired flow rate. Using a full syphon drain will be quiet.
