Noobest Reefer on the west coast!

Hello all! My name is Mike and I am a first time reefer. After many years of beach vacations, scuba diving, and trips to aquariums, I divided to dive into the salt water aquarium habit . Keep in mind I am a brand new reefer and have much to learn so please do not hesitate to share all of your knowledge with me! For my first setup I decided to go with the JBJ 45 Rimless aquarium. I have read many great reviews seen even better success. I felt like this was a great starter tank for me especially since I am very new to this hobby. Everyone in this community seems extremely nice and I couldn't be happier with the amount of support I see from everyone involved. I plan on making this a life long hobby and learning very quickly from my mistakes. Follow me on this adventure and happy reefing all!

My most common advice to newbies is to simply start the tank balanced out and stabilized with macro algae right from the start. Then do the rest.

Live stock will eat the macros so best to set up some kind of refugium even if just a simple tank partition to separate the macros from the livestock.
