Wasup guys I have a 40 gallon breeder for about month and half now. I have hang on back aquamax protein skimmer, seachem 55 with chemipure elite and white rocks, and 8 watt aqua ultraviolet uv sterilizer. I also use rodi water from a 4 stage system from marine depot.

Api test kit is what I have I know I'm upgrading to salifert test kit this week

Api test:
Ammonia 0
High ph 8
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
Salinity 1.023
Temperature currently 78.1
I had my clown fish about a month and boom drop dead on me, heavy breathing and swimming upside down and all weird. I have 5 turbo snails, 2 turban snails, 1 trochus snails and a yellow gobie who's doing great and a blue devil damsel and a dwarf angel fish, linckia starfish who are doing great and looking healthy....I'll post a pic of the clown fish , any help would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance

Hard to tell exactly once the fish is dead and starts to lose its color naturally. Ich typically doesn't kill that quickly... you should have seen small white dots on him prior to death. Those patches of skin discoloration are concerning... possible bacterial disease vs uronema vs normal death discoloration (haven really noticed this in patches on dead fish though).

Brooklynella is common in clowns and kills very quickly. Watch the others for any changes... you may have to get them out quickly for treatment.

First off, ich doesn’t kill.

Second your tank looks brand new and that’s what killed the clown...

Ich does kill. Not always, but it can.

Also, he has no ammonia and nitrite which would indicate it has nothing to do with being a new tank. I do agree though it makes no sense that the rocks have no algae on them unless the lights just went on.

Out of curiosity, did you just recently turn the lights on? Also another curiosity question, where is that sicce pump going to? It looks like it just dissapears in the pic of the top of the tank lol

Thanks again for the info and replies everyone. I cycled my tank using dr tims one and only nitrifying bacteria with ammonium chloride and tested daily and following all of dr tims directions till the ammonia and nitrite read zero... I also dose microbacter 7 once a week.

While I don't know what killed your clown unfortunately, I can say it definitely wasn't ich. Ich is rarely fatal, and the clown would have been the last fish to go. Their thick slime coat protects them. Ich often, but not always presents with salt grain like spots all over the fish, not big white splotches.

That your other fish are alive and well is strange and points to a non fish disease cause. But to rule it out entirely, when was your last addition to the tank? Did you quarantine your livestock at all?

Good question , yea I turned the led lights about a month into starting up the tank, I shoulda waited the 4 months like Ryan from brs recommends. And as for the sicce pump and hose run to a uv sterilizer I installed about 2 days ago

Yea thats where I screwed up I added a dwarf angel fish about 3 weeks and i didn't quarantine , I have a 10 gallon aquarium in storage that I was thinking about setting up for a quarantine tank

I do have like a copper and neon green colored algae I'll post some better pics

In the first picture you can see on the glass the brown film and substrate

Very rarely does ich kill, and it only kills it due to severe stress. Additionally that tank is at all zeros cos it brand new, not a month and a half and that is what contributed to the clowns death, as a fact.
