Noobie mistake, too much sand!

So when I got my tank in April I made made the noobie mistake of buying too much sand. And now I want to remove some of it. Ive come to the conclusion thats theres simply too much... Its almost about 4 inches deep.

Do this slowly. As you do your water changes siphon some of the sand out. This will take some time but its the safest way of not causing any major effects on the tank.

Another thing 4inch of sand bed isn't a bad thing. It all depends on what you want and what type of fish and inverts you planned on keeping. Some fish need that deep of a sand bed.

LOL! If you decide to keep it, 4"-6" is DSB range (if it's sugar fine grain size sand) so should decide now whether to siphon the sand during water change or leave it alone to use it as DSB.

maybe lower it to 3-4”. that’s what i prefer as not to get into dsb range as mentioned above.

Yeah, just siphon pretty aggressively at each cleaning and you will eventually reduce it.
