Hey there, I will be setting up a 5 feet peninsula style mixed reef tank but will be on the sps dominated side. So, I was wondering if I should get 3 AI Hydra 32 Hd which would be around 1200 USD or should I get 3 NooPschye K7 Pro V3 which would be around 700 usd. I will save about 500 usd if I get Noops. Please let me know, thank you! I want good colouration of corals, good growth, good coverage and some shimmer but no disco effect. Also I don’t mind it there isn’t an app for it as it is basically just set it and forget it. Please let me know which one will be better for the corals and also visually. Thank you in advance!

I'd save the $500 and go with the Noops, especially now that there is an app for controlling them.

I’ve never used the AI lights but I like my Noopsyche lights. I’d use the savings on the Noopsyche lights to get 4 of them instead of 3 AI and still save money.
Also, like already mentioned new Noopsyche lights do use an app to control them. Mine are the ones that take the controller so I can’t say how user friendly the app is though.

I see thanks! How many Noops do you think I will need for the 5 foot reef? Also can you guys send me pics of your tanks under these lights? Really want to see how they look. Also how is the coral growth under these lights?

I don't have the Noops, so I don't have any pictures to share with you.

I was just suggesting the Noops based on the fact that @telegraham suggested in his review of the Noops K7 V3, that they put out an excellent spectrum, even noting "The spectrum is awesome, beating the stock spectrums of most AI offerings, the Neptune shared Sky spectrum, and dang near nailing the Ecotech Gen 4 Pro’s output." He also noted that the Noops have better spread than most of those other lights too.

So I'd go with the light with the better spectrum and spread save the $500 and call it a day.

I run 2xHydra 64HD's. Click the link to the last 3-4 pages of my build thread to see how they look / coral react to them. With that said, I started out with Viparspectra black box lights, which you will see earlier on in the build thread, with similar results and have heard great things about Noopsyche.

My opinion is, go with what your budget and needs allow and don't look back (just don't purchase fixtures that are not UL certified). All the bragging about how expensive light fixtures do this and that, mainly come from the people who purchased them. I am one of those people, but I know one thing for a fact. You can purchase nearly any quality fixture today, set it, forget it and if your water, flow and key parameters are stable, the budget light will grow healthy colorful coral. When you get to the point where those cheap fixtures have grown too much beautiful coral, add more lights to increase the footprint over your system.

I vote for the @noopsyche lights. Agreed on the money saved and the quality of the lights for the price. Best of luck either way! Both great lights :)

I don't run either light - I use Radions.
