Ok maybe this is the wrong thread but I have a rant . I saw where Noopsyche did a give away and since then I have seen a lot of Noopsyche lights fs from the people that one them for free . My rant is if you won this light and didn’t like it why not pass it on to someone that could try it and only charge the shipping cost since it didn’t cost you one single thing . I’m sorry this has been another one of my issues with the way this hobby has changed over the years . Back in the day if we always tried to help other reefers out . So ok you decided to go back to radion , Ai or ati why not pass on YOUR Freebe to someone that can not afford those other lights or just pass it on to another reefer just to help them out . Why do you feel it good to make a profit off of something that was given to you to try . Just seen so much change over the last 20+ years and it is very sad .

Unfortunately, whether it was won, found in the garbage, gifted- They are the owners and are permitted to dispose of item how they feel deemed necessary. I see your point in whereas, if you dont need it, allow others to try and win in, but this does not describe todays' society.
I juat bought a pump from someone that got it on liquidation, but was still cheaper than new. I knew this but what do I do? Either I buy it at a savings or rant and pay full price.

Don’t get me wrong I have had great dealing through out my 29 years in this hobby . It just the way this hobby is going is so far from where it started . Vettguy I do understand your point it’s just hard for me to justify getting money for something that I won over other people to try out to see how it does for our corals. I guess I am just old school

A "giveaway" is not a program for people to test products, it is a contest that is basically a free to enter lottery where people exchange not their money for entry - but their social media feeds/ friends/ personal information/ email inbox.

Understand that everyone entering these things is giving these companies something of value, and if they win, they deserve to keep the value of the item if they so desire. You may give out hundreds of dollars of advertising and your personal information to these companies before you win anything.

It is a test , if people got these lights and there coral didn’t grow etc the everyone would no there lights where a failure so yes it was a test of the light sorry but that is very plan to see . It was for them to show there light where good and to get a mass of easy advertising. I am not against what they did . My rant was to the people that won the Free light that turned around and sold them when it didn’t cost them a dime . They didn’t pay for shipping or nothing . All they did was used electricity that the would have used on other light . So just because they where the lucky ones that won over hundreds of people makes it justifiable to you ?

A giveaway is for marketing purposes only - to get people to look at their product or watch a video or sign up on a website. That is the value. There is no follow-up. You are not signing up for a research trial. They don't care if you chuck the product you won into the sea after you get it.

So if you win a giveaway after applying to hundreds of them and losing on the ones that you wanted and the product is not for you - you will give it away - just pay shipping? Could I be the first you consider? Thanks!

If you where first to respond yes . That is they way the hobby was years ago . And it is not like it take that much to post a link or put something on face book or IG and submit a photo or like something . It’s not like it was some big chore . I meen we have spent more time discussion this the it room to enter the contest .

Your time is money... My billable rate is $145 an hour and if it takes me 5 minutes to sign up for a giveaway it costs me approx $12 of my time... if I do that ten times without winning I am out $120 of my time.

You my friend need to value your time more.

Me, I would give it away. I am giving away an extra battery backup that I got for free to a local reefer instead of keeping it or selling it.

I am just saying that it is fair for them to keep the value of a prize they won. If you do not lower your expectations of your fellow humans you will never be happy.

I agree to disagree with you . Yes your time is a value but it is something you do regardless. My hourly salary is a little more then yours but this unfortunately is not billable hours . This is a hobby not what provides for my family . I do value my time very much so . Even though I was told last year I had three years to live I think I value my time a lot . Let me ask you this do you clock in and out when you work on your tank , or when you make a Facebook or IG post . Nope you don’t , you do it for the love of the hobby . There are other people on here that are not as fortunate as I am and really could of used those lights to get started . I have been in the hobby probably longer then you have been alive . So I have seen the way this hobby has changed over the years . Before it was share and help people and not so more .

And I am saying it is your job to be the guy who shares and is generous without expecting it of others!

They may not be as lucky as you or I and the value of the prize could be a whole month's spending money and they are saving for their first tank, or a controller, or maybe they really need a new wave pump because theirs is on the fritz.

Be the change that you want to see in the world. Just understand that everyone is in a different place and you need to respect their choices, even if you would do it differently.

Also if you win a controller I get first dibs as I need one lol.

Lol that’s fine just be first in line when I post it . I understand there choices , just don’t see the same outcome as they do . If it wouldn’t have been for the way this hobby started with sharing in good fortunes then it wouldn’t be the way it is today . Go read some of Mike Palletta’s morning coffee on reef builders if you want to see where all of this came from
