NoPox help

Hi all!

new member and new to the reefing game.
I got a lil Red Sea nano max, I was using the mature pro program. Got to the end of the 21 days and noticed there was a film on the glass everyday. Had a Google around and overall thoughts for this problem was to cut down your dose. So I did. Now I have cloudy water…. I do have a skimmer and I do believe it is skimming “wet”

Not sure what to do, if anything..

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the film white?

Maybe it was just bacteria doing their job, growing and consuming nitrate. Cutting back on the dose might have starved some of the bacteria.or caused them to leave the biofilm. Just some guesses.

What are your tank parameters?

Did you start with Live Rock or Dead rock?

If you started with Dead rock you should skip the NoPox as it will probably cause issues for you.
The Red Sea mature program relies on live rock.

was asking for nopox help, as it seems to of happened (cloudy water) after adjusting my nopox dose.

If you started with Dead rock you should skip the NoPox as it will probably cause issues for you.

I used the caribsea “shapes” rocks.
I don’t think these are “live rock”

Yes, Life Rock are dead rocks.

I would not dose NoPox until the tank is stable.
If you do, you will likely feed undesirable organisms.

Probably in 6 months or so it may be useful.

Oh wow! Ok. I did read the instructions and yes it does mention the process will be faster using live rock and slower with dead rock, I just “assumed” nopox actually stabilised the system.

I wouldn’t dose NOPOX in a new small tank speaking from experience and not listening to people. This happens. A white film is bacterial meaning you dosed too fast and it can potentially keep building up and cause a tank to crash as seen below from an overdose. You also have little to no phosphate which you don’t want and NOPOX will make worse.

A white film is bacterial meaning you dosed too fast and it can potentially keep building up and cause a tank to crash as seen below from an overdose. You also have little to no phosphate which you don’t want and NOPOX will make worse.

I had halved my dose, and yesterday I did not dose nopox nor have I today. I am assuming I should not dose until it clears?

I just followed the instructions on mature pro kit, taking into account water displacement also dosed as per instructions. The actual cloudy water only happened when I half the dose. I did not have cloudy water before halving the dose, only a thin while film on the glass, nothing else.

You should not dose NoPox at all - for at least a few months IMO.

It is not useful in a new unstable tank and can create a lot of problems that are difficult to solve.
It feeds bacteria that consumes nitrate and phosphate.
At this point the way for you to control those is with water changes.

Glad the see the Red Sea mature pro was not a waste of money then .
Ok. One less thing for me to think about then for the mo.
