Hey guys,
Was checking over my Equipment tonight and realized a power outlet was off on my dos that doses nopox and magnesium. While tracing my steps , and getting dos back online I accidentally dripped about 25ml of Nopox into tank. My normal amount was 10ml per 24 hour period. Do you think I will have a big problem? It’s been about 2 hours since the big dos hit the tank. The only thing I noticed so far was my ph dropped from like 7.9 to 7.81. Tank corals and fish look fine. Skimmer is running fine.... What is scaring me is that the dos may have been off for a few weeks. My nitrate levels actually never went up during that time anyhow...

Thoughts???

So I just checked ph, holding steady at 7.81. Ph definitely not dropping rapidly at this point...

Unlikely an issue. I use to dose 25ml/day in a 75g until my levels dropped and so did my dosing amt. I used NOPOX for 1.6 years till it wasn't needed. When NO3 would never rise above Oppm and PO4 < .15 most of the time, sometimes .O6ppm. Your Ph will shift up to .2ph normally at night and rise during the day.

It’s a Red Sea Reefer 250, prolly 60 gallons total water volume.

The only thing that may happen is a bacterial bloom. 25ml isn’t enough to cause damage

So here we go... I was just taking a nap from about 2-3pm. I woke up to a cloudy tank and my ph being 7.70.
The only thing I changed today was my Co2 Scrubber media around 12pm. Was almost all purple...
Currently as I type this my Ph is 7.72

Any course of action??? Why would this happen 20 hours later Randy??
So now that I think about it and track down when I stopped dosing I think I accidentally turned off the dos last Monday. So the NoPox dosing stopped about 5 days before last night.... So I went from 10ml per day to 0, then too 24 ml in one shot...

It takes time for bacteria to multiply. If they double in 2 h (which you may not see at all), then in 20 h, they could have increased by a factor of a thousand (which you might well see).

Randy,
Any course of action?? My skimmer seems to have some nasty stuff in it.... Not much yet but starting...... My Apex Dos is back online doing it's 10ml per day Nopox dosing. Should I stop that? Decrease it???

I can tell you this kind of skim is very unsusal for my skimmer. It’s very milky In texture....

Randy,
Just out of curiosity how does this work itself out scientifically? Bacteria count eventually will decrease?
So overdose on Carbon (Nopox) fuel the bacteria, bacteria multiplies..... How will the rapid production of bacteria stop??

You only added 2.5 x normal, so would cause the growth of 2.5x normal bacteria levels (or something like that). They stop growing when they run out of the food (the organic carbon). :)

Yes 2.5x the normal but in one shot. I dosed the normal amount spread over a 24 hour period... :)

Man it’s looking really cloudy, how long will this last???
