I had a high reading of Nitrates with a Red Sea Pro Kit. I started dosing Nopox a week ago 30 ml for 250 gallons of water. After a week of dosing I cannot get a test reading of nitrate with the test kit. Zero nitrates! Should I be concerned of a backlash with zero nitrates, should I add some nitrates back into the system by feeding heavy? Thanks!

I would be concerned with zero No3 if the system is not set up to do so.

P04 is zero, I was using gfo in a phosban reactor. I took it offline. I don't understand a product that would give you instructions to follow by and then after seven days of dosing would wipe out all nitrates. I even called Red Sea while dosing to confirm the dosing amounts.

Dosing any carbon has to be done in steps. From what I am seeing the dose was too high to start with.
Also too much GFO is being used if the tests are accurate

There is a small amount to basically "maintain" nitrates low. In my 57gal i do 3ml keeping no3 at zero also. I would say for your volume of water, it should be around more or less 15ml

Followed the directions. I have a 220 gallon Perfecto tank with a 75 gallon sump. I calculated minus live rock for total volume of water @ 250 gallons. Instructions state 3 ml per 25 gallons o f water. So I dosed 30 ml of Nopox, someone check me. Is this correct?

I had nitrates for at least five days at a high reading. The sixth day they dropped to around 25 ppm. Today they will not read on the test kit. My Salifert kit is showing 25 ppm though.

Thanks, I will take a look. Should I be concerned, should I take my skimmer offline. I have a ton of $ in my corals, should I do something?

I would stop the carbon dosing till your No3 comes back to your target level unless you were a ULNS to begin with.

It's a mixed reef. Thanks for the info.

I have only used Nopox for seven days. I dosed the suggested dose that Red Sea recommended 3 ml per 25 gallon water volume if nitrates are above 10 ppm. From my experience with the product I would probably cut that in half and test more often. It seems to be a very good product, but it stripped my system of nitrates in seven days.

You are correct, ive read the dosage now and your tank is doing exactly as supposed to. You got the nitrates down to zero which is great. I dose aminos to keep some for the sps, and remember, having to add nutrients is always better than not being able to ever lower them!

Wanted to post a update, the reason I was getting zero nitrates all of a sudden was the reangent C sticking to the scoop. It was not getting the full reagent into the solution therefore giving a false reading.
