Hello,

I’m using NOPOX. It does a great job of holding my nitrate in the 3-5ppm range; it’s been solid here for a year.

Unfortunately it isn’t exporting phosphate fast enough. I regularly replace my RO filters and clean my reservoirs and WC buckets to rule out those as a source of phosphate. My phosphates come from heavy feeding which I and my fish enjoy.

I use a roller mat and an oversized skimmer, weekly waterchanges etc. I don’t use any phosphate removal media as per NOPOX directions.

I think now I need to employ another source of phosphate removal as NOPOX isn’t doing the job.

Could other NOPOX users let me know what they are doing for phosphate control? I’m trying to work out the best option for my tank as I travel frequently for work.

I’m either going to set up a lanthanum based product on a doser, or set up GFO in a small reactor.

I used a bag of chemipure elite. Eventually had to remove due to phosphate bottoming. So it works, just watch your numbers.

Nopox is another form of carbon dosing which will not lower phosphates much…you have to realize phosphates are bond to rock and sand and what’s in the water column is the only thing that will be effected…I hav tried gfo , chem elite, etc and the only thing that works for me is phos e from brightwell

Sorry for the delayed response. Just wanted to say thanks everyone for your input.

I’m trying some phosguard in a bag in my sump for now to see what impact this has on my phosphate levels.

My system has always been phosphate deficit, whether using chaeto reactors, ATS, or ZEOvit system. I use dosing pump to add phosphate directly to the tank and control the phosphate input from food selection. Phosphate is likely reduced most from kalk dosings, which I exhaust adding alk and calcium via other means.

Following along...same exact setup and situation for me.

I’ve since set up a small reactor to run some gfo in.

im taking it slowly using 15g in my 150L. It brought phosphate down from 0.13ppm to 0.09ppm and I’m holding there until it starts increasing then I’ll change it while monitoring my nitrate.
