i know this has been discussed many many many times. And I have already read the answer to the question I'm about to ask... but I can't find the thread.

What is the correct mix of vodka and vinegar that makes nopox?
Are most people using a mix, or sticking to one or the other?

Also interested, and I also think that sugar is also in NOPOX.

I used NOPOX for a long while but stopped buying it and switch to vinegar. I'm think of going back because i would have to refill my container far less often.

NOPOX = 590ml vinegar to 410ml vodka assuming 5% vinegar and 80 proof vodka

I chose to dose just vinegar, but if you mix one part vinegar to one half part vodka and one half part water, you'll be pretty close to NOPOX. If you want to get even closer, add a little more vodka and a little less water.

Based on an NMR of NOPOX, a diy mix of 500 mls vinegar (5%), 375 mls vodka (80 proof), and 125 mls RO/DI matches the ratios.

The vinegar and vodka won't hurt any fishes in the tank?

It was just discussed this week and just fell to page two. ;)

@Randy Holmes-Farley what is your vinegar dosing plan?

I used a 1.1 mL/min BRS dosing pump to deliver pretty large amount of vinegar just upstream of two large rock-filled refugia. For my system with a 120 display and a maybe 100 gallons more water volume, I dosed anywhere from 75 to 410 mL per day (based on the BRS doser timing, the actual volumes may have been more since many people report they dose more than 1.1 mL per min). 410 mL per day was too much, showing hazy water and some negative impacts on anemones.

I dosed during the daylight hours to keep O2 from dropping too much at night.
