Hi!
I’m contemplating starting dosing NoPox to bring out a bit more color in my sps, however, I’m slightly worried about how the solution will affect the tubing and my acrylic dosing containers since I’ve heard that it can be corrosive.

Is there a definite answer to if it’s safe or could I potentially run in to problems down the line? Having to do it manually every day sounds like the mother of all snooze-fests.

Thank you!

I've read elsewhere that you should not use acrylic containers if dosing NoPox. In fact the instructions state not to use acrylic. I use a Voss 800 ml water bottle for NoPox dosing container. Also note the new bottles of NoPox have a nipple on the top of the lid to solve this issue. There is a little card inside that gives you the dimensions of the tubing necessary to use this new feature (tubing is not included). I believe it is 4mm inside the cap / bottle with the standard 5mm outside / on top of the bottle. Once everything is set up tighten the lid/cap then backoff 1 to 2 turns so it can draw a bit of air in/out without inducing high evaporation.

Ah, great. I had no idea about that they had included that feature on their bottles.
Do you have any idea what it does to acrylic? Does it dissolve it over time or something?
I wonder if it would work to dilute it with RO water to make it less damaging for the container/tubing.

I'm not sure what it does to be honest but would have to guess it has something to do with the alcohol vs. the more traditional silicon tubing. I know the new caps are to help with this although they are not included. I think they run 2 to 3 dollars. Search on Red Sea R22209 for the twin pack which is chemical resistant I think.

Edit: Do not dilute. If this is something you are going to start (dosing NoPox that is) then I recommend to start with 1/3 or 1/2 of the initial dose. Calculate a rough estimate of your total water volume. This is actual water minus rocks and sand but obviously includes the sump and display. For example my aquarium is 210 gallons and my sump is 16 gallons. However, I have 150 to 175 lbs or rock and 200 lbs of sand which after the calculation (few calculators on the web to use) came back with 170 gallons of water.

I then looked at NoPox instructions, mixed reef, and found their suggested dosing ML. I then took 1/3 of that to start my initial dose. Test nitrate, phosphate, water change, calculate dose, scale back, note start date, then repeat daily at same time with next does. Test twice a week. It works well but you just need to go slow since it will take your nitrate and phosphate to zero...
