Hello, I was reading threds on this and thought I'd ask on my own. I have a 300 gallon display mixed reef with a decent amount of fish or so I feel. I have a negative space aquascape and a 80 gallon sump. I have approximately 340 gallons total volume. I feed mostly hpd with reef chili and a lot of nori. My no3 is at 39.1 and slowly coming down as I started po4 is at .57 again slowly coming down. Started using rowaphos for po4. Started cheato in the refugium for nitrates plus an area for pods population.
I just received my nopox and I'm scared to use the required amount if I'm doing it right. 3ml per 25 gallons equals 40.8 ml, should this be dosed all at once or multiple times throughout the day? Should I turn off my UV in the sump? I really would like to be able to dose and keep things more stable. I test with hanna checkers just so you know. Oh should I stop the carbon and rowaphos reactors while doing this?

I appreciate all help and information you have on this situation.

If it were me I would wait and see the effects of the chaeto before using an additional method.

Thanks, chaeto has been in there almost 3 weeks hasn't really seemed to grow much and no3 has only dropped 10ppm it was 49.6
This is why I'm looking into another route.

Wondering if I should dose this over a 24hr period or if it should be while lights are on or off?
NoPox will take a few weeks before it even makes a difference. Will have to be dosed daily in that time. All at once would be fine in a high flow area

I'm using a dos I'm just trying to understand the best way.
Still all at once?
It's going into the sump baffles before the return.
All at once is fine. It's just basically vinegar and vodka.

Ok thanks.
I was reading how some dose it only when their lights are on others were when the lights were off, some dosed all try. I'm trying to learn the benefits of the options.

I've used it and it does work. Just careful that your nutrients don't get too low with the 2 new export methods.

I dose it daily. During lights on. So over 12 hrs during the daytime. I read that was better. Previously was doing 24 hrs. Nopox works for me. I'd start off maybe half and work up over a few days just so you can keep an eye on your tank. I'm currently taking mine down from 15ml (220 total water) to 7 as my no3 is almost 0. Might even go lower but I'd like to keep some going. I've had it up to 25 ml which is close to their recommendation.

I also in the last month started using nyos zero and bio and put 1000ml zeo in my sump. I was dosing the zero a bit higher than recommendation. Today none! Also, finally, my chaeto grew big enough to harvest, along with the ulva lettuce.

So for my tank, it took a combination of nyos, nopox and a refugium of macro algae to bring me down from 25 to .8 this evening--yes, too low. I'm also dosing neo phos. I feed very heavy and will esp. now until I get back up to 5-10 no3. Adding spirulina and reef roids to help po4.

Takes time. I also do not do big water changes. Just small awc of 3-5 gal a day for a week or so. When needed, so 5% a month if needed.

Thank you for that.
I change 1 gallon a day with awc. I'd like to drop that to half after I get everything under control. I was changing a 1/4 gallon on our 100 gallon daily and it stayed holding its parameters nicely.

I find numbers stay more stable. I had to do some wc's after I treated with chemi clean and it totally messed up my alk and ca. Somehow CA went way too high and the alk dosed precipitated and dropped. Drove me nuts. Did a week of 3-5 g a day and now we are sitting stable.

I think on a large tank, those weekly percentages are just not needed and they are also too costly. I'd rather dose elements than mix salt lol's

That's exactly the route I'm trying to take.
I read that about Chem clean and that's why I choose nopox. I read a lot about it, here and just a bunch of Google and YouTube videos but I really wanted someone to give me a helping hand that has been using it long term and that I can get a helping hand once in a while if I feel I'm getting lost.
I bought lots of test reagents for both po4 and no3 so I'll keep a really close look these first cool weeks.
I set it up to dose 40ml throughout 24hrs I figured that would take things a little slower. Then after I get where I want to be I was thinking about setting it to dose 3 hrs after lights come on until 3 hrs after lights go out so that it would be thriving after the fish started stirring things up and run while things were calming down. What do you think?

I would spread the Nopox dose over a 24 hour period just divide it up and you will be fine doing that. Also remember you need to ‘wet skim’

Ive used it for years in my smaller S650, but for the last few, it makes no difference even at very high dosages (double) so I’ve taken it off line so I would just monitor the nitrate levels and see how you get on using it. I’ve also tried the DIY version and had the same, nominal results. This tank now runs at around 40 nitrate and glows with life, but it’s mature and 6 years old.

Nopox makes very little difference to phosphate so yes you could use rowaphos to get it down from those fairly high levels but you need to be careful because of the chaeto. If you want it to grow, you need plenty of food, including phosphate otherwise it won’t grow and remove nutrients

Ive also recently added a refugium as some extra nutrient export with chaeto and a decent grow light but you need to make sure it has food and also the correct trace elements, some something like brightwell chaeto grow.

When I set my additional large system up (530g) the basic method for nitrate control was and still is Seachem Matrix, and a lot, like 58 litres of it in the sump. Once seeded it just sits there doing it’s stuff. This system is around 25-30 nitrate

You could also look at a roller mat to remove most of the waste materials before they even reach the skimmer and that will help a great deal with nutrient control if you don’t have one already.

I think you can deal with it in multiple ways, but you need to be careful they don’t interfere with each other to achieve the ultimate goal.

Thank you. I don't want to run a ULNS but I would like my numbers to be down in a more comfortable range.
I have chaeto with a Kessel a80 set on grow and high on the intensity. I want 2 neptune grow lights but they are just not in the budget yet. I don't have a roller but I do use 2 10 micron socks at a time and I alternate every other day taking the worst one out and adding a new one, I bought 20 of these they work great at collecting that is for sure.
I dos aquaforest 1+2+3
Now nopox
I have 1 banshee with carbon
1 banshee with co2 media plumbed to the skimmer
1 large brs reactor running the rowaphos. I run 1.5 cups at a time.
I was reading that plenty of people run it with phosguard, gfo, and rowaphos running at the same time

that should work. I think my dosing starts at 8 and ends at 8 so an hour before lights on and off an hour before lights off. I don't recall the reason for not dosing all night. Or where I read it even lol's but it was within the last month. Probably saw a post or thread. I'm still testing every day or every other day until I get no3 and po4 where I want them and know they will stay there!

chemiclean takes care of cyano. I got it right after dosing reef flux. So even dosing nopox you can still get it as cyano can be caused by lots of different issues
