Ive had my wrasse for about a week now and I haven’t noticed this till today. Is this normal behavior? The wrasse is swimming in its side and looks straight up and sometimes swims upside down. I just fed the tank and he ate. Here’s a video

If it's a spinal injury it would swim like a weight is tied to their tail... the corkscrew dance. From what I can see yours looks fine. I just had to euthanize my Fairy wrasse due to this injury.

What about this video? This one is a little better. Sorry about your fairy wrasse.

The second video does look like a spinal injury, can't really tell in the third. Mine got spooked and banged into something; I could tell by the banged up snout, look and see if there's any signs of hitting something. I caught mine and put into an acclimation box so he wouldn't get tossed around by the current. It was sad watching him perk up to want to eat during feeding time but not be able to. Instead of slowly watching him starve to death I made the choice of euthanizing him. :(
If yours isn't getting tossed around a lot in the current and is still eating then I'd leave him be. If in fact it is a spinal injury there's the rare chance it might make a recovery but it's unlikely.

Dang there’s nothing that I know of that would’ve cause that he doesn’t get chased by other fish. I’ll keep an eye on him. I think he’s found a spot where he’s not getting blown around too much. If it does get worse how did you euthanize your fish? I don’t wanna take him out in pain if it comes down to it.

Clove oil and alcohol is supposedly the most humane way. I think some have frozen fish too but were I to choose Id go the clove oil route if I had to.

Tough call to make but give him some time. Hope he pulls through.

Ive done both of these unfortunately, but I would give him a couple weeks to see if he can heal. I had this happen to a supermale lineatus wrasse after QT when he went into my DT where I spot fed him 2 times a day. He was eventually euthanized. Sad and hard to watch but hope for the best you never know.

I've heard that they sometimes recover but it's rare. If yours is still able to eat and swim around some without being tossed around a lot, then give him a little more time. Mine was in the acclimation box where it was safe for over a week with attempts at spot feeding, but he never improved.

Well good news the wrasse is back to normal. It seemed it be getting worse and the fish was being knocked around from the current. I went and got clove oil but never had the chance to take the fish out. I was working doubles all week and when I finally got a day off I noticed he was back to normal. Glad I didn’t take him out
