Hey all,

I read something the other day about polyps growing from the base as a bad sign. I think I've also heard that's how frogspawn grow. So, now I'm paranoid!

Haha, can anyone tell me if the heads branching off the stem of this frogspawn look normal?

That's a good sign! Growth means that your coral is getting enough light energy and calc/alk from the water to create new skeleton and flesh. On a side note, it looks like the coral in the picture is a hammer, but all euphyllia do look fairly similar. Nice piece!

it looks fine to me. i have the same frog in my tank. i think i read the same thread about the buds on the base & there was some confusion in that thread about pests, but buds growing from the stalk of your frog is normal. they may or may not grow into new heads but it's normal.

As said above, definitely a good sign and means new growth. That being said, they don't typically make it due to being blocked by the larger heads and therefor not getting sufficient light. The more common way they reproduce is splitting. Not saying they won't continue to grow, just unlikely in my experience.

Looks exactly like a coral that was sold to me as frogspawn as well:)

I heard that they wont grow because they are shaded so I spun my hammer slightly! lol hoping this helps the cute little guys grow!

Edit: should be a video, cant see it at work, hopefully its there!

Oh nice!!!
I think was an aquacultured piece, so the main heads are about half the size of yours. Due to that factor, and the fact that it is one of 3 corals in the tank (just started)... Hopefully the heads on the stem will make it!
