Norms SCA66 build thread

Great job. Looking great!

Thanks RC! I'm really happy with how the tank, stand, and sump turned. Still deciding on how the equipment cabinet will look like, suggestions are always welcome =) Now we just have to wait for he tank to cycle so we can actually put some livestock in there.

It's killing me that it'll be another two months before I can get mine wet! :-(

Great build and good skills, will be following. :)

Thanks Simon! I def. have a ways to go compared to your tank. I peeked over at your build and it looks great! I love how you have all different types of coral mixed in with each other and its working =)

So we got back from CT a early this week. It was great seeing our good friends, but being a native San Diegan, the heat and humidity was a little unpleasant =P So walking up to our front door, I always get visions of our dining room just soaked in salt water. I always feel like this when I come home from vacation...lol. Maybe I should invest in an Apex controller or something. Of course when I open the door, the tank is fine and dandy =) I did a water reading right before we left for vacation: Phos = 0 , Ammonia = 1.0ppm , Nitrites = 2ppm , Nitrates = 0ppm. I had the lights off the whole time and just ran the skimmer. Checked parameters Tuesday and they look good. PO4, N02, and NH3 all at zero. Nitrates were over 10ppm but I did at pretty hefty water change and its now sitting under 5ppm. I think using a lot of established live rock in the sump helped a bunch w/ the cycling. Got a couple lps frags yesterday and they opened up nicely within 10-15min. Flow with the mp10's are awesome! I'll try and get a video clip of that too.

wow, love that alve...i just got 4 in from AquaSD...wish they'd had one like that!

Talk about bringing back memories. I got my SCA66 just over 2 years ago and LOVE it. Check out my build thread. Looks like built very similar stands and the outer rim and such. I love the stain job you did. I have had ZERO issues with mine and LOVE it.

I see that alve on the sale thread from last weekend but it's a full colony...i bought a 4-frag pack.

I move on 9/24 so it'll be probably the weekend after that when I get started. I actually already got a gate valve in my last BRS order.

Ahhh...Thanks for stopping by pickupman66!! I actually got inspired by your review of the tank on amazon =) I showed the pictures you posted on Amazon and told my wife that this was how our new system will look like. I liked how you made the stand so I followed suite. Btw, do you still have that copperband butterfly in your tank? I've always wanted to get that fish but never pulled the trigger because I heard they picked at SPS.

Oh nice, the alve 4 pack? I wanted to start off slow so I didn't go to crazy. They always have really good deals on eBay and the Saturday forum sales.

WOW Norm. Thanks. :D I am honored. So, I had to let the CBB go off to a bigger home. keeping him fed with mysis was too much for my bioload and I didnt have any worms or aptasia in the tank for him to snack on between feedings. so he went to a 650 gallon tank somewhere in Nashville. that was over a year ago and from what I hear, that dude is still alive and well. I would LOVE to get another smaller one but cannot right now with the lineatus tang. Such a little bully. I never had issues with the SPS and that fish either. he stuck to his mysis and aptasia. cleaned my 180 out. now that he has gone though, I have a few of them starting to pop up, so one may be in my future soon.

I tell ya, Steve is a good guy up there at SCA. I would not hesitate to buy another one of their tanks. BTW< did he custom drill it for you with the Herbie? I wish I didnt have to rely on my Durso, but it seems to be working just fine.

yeah, it was [HASHTAG]#451[/HASHTAG] on Saturdays sale. They did throw in a 5th freebie...can't wait to see what it looks like.

Nice! Yeah they're pretty good like that. They have a lot of great corals. I came home today with the tentacles on the alveopora and euphyllia's a lot more extended. I'll try and get a video up in the next few days.

Not much to update. I've been really busy lately with work and the tank is still doing great. I haven't added anything new because I want to take things slow this time around. I should be ready for fish in the next week or so. Can't decide what type of livestock I want in there =P

FISHIESSSSSSSS!!!

My son loves these guys. They look tiny in the tank [emoji39] I had a trio of Lyretail Anthias in there for a few days but decided to take them back because it was an impulse buy and didn't read up on them before purchasing. My tank would have been way to small for them [emoji22] so I'm going to trade them in for a tomini tang instead. I bought a few more sps frags that I'm really excited about. Hopefully they do well. I'll have pictures of the later.

Picked up this tomini tang [emoji4] he's still rally shy, but I'll try and get a better picture in the display tank.

Also picked up some sps from Aquasd's ebay auction. Not very good pictures, but the one on the left is a tenuous with neon green tips and the other is a milli with a cactus green base with pink polyps. They do look so much better in person.
