I bought some hermits in early July, including an electric blue leg. After about a week in the tank, he molted. We thought he had died (I am a noob). Today he showed up on a rock without a shell!!!!
We put some shells up on the rock he is on. Hopefully, he will choose one. In terms of livestock, all we have in there now is a clownfish, blenny, brittle star and some other crabs and snails. I assume he has been without a shell since mid July.
For other newbies out there, if your hermit looks dead or see some body parts laying around; just leave it there. I made the mistake of moving the shell during the molt. I figured I had killed it. Oh ye of little faith. We have changed his name to Lazarus.
