So i was doing my evening cleanup of glass ect. When i got to my refugeum, and started to move my cheato i noticed a crustacean of some form swimming. It was approximately 3/4 of an inch by maybe a millimeter wide. It swam in a corkscrew twisting pattern, and on one side had fingers or a fin like a freshwater knife fish. It was white with an iridescent blue tint. That could have been reflected from my lights.
When i set my system up, i had used dry sand, dry rock but also put about 2 pounds of wild collected Florida keys sand. I assume thats where it came from.
I thought it was pretty cool to see it in there. I couldnt get a pic because it hid in the cheato when i was getting my ph.

Yeah i dont know if i can ever catch it on film but if i do ill post it. Those type of creatures are what im most fascinated by. The fish are actually for others enjoyment.

Is it a mantis shrimp?

The 3/4" long description would be pretty darn large, but just taking a shot since it was in your cheato...did it look like this? If so, it's a scud which is a type of amphipod.

No not it. Picture a piece of medium thickness fishing line. At max streched out 3/4". Then running the lenth on one side either tiny legs like a millipede or a fin that moves like millipedes legs. Wrap the thread around a thin pencil so it makes it a corkscrew shape. As it travels through the water it was staying in the corkscrew shape but swimming with the fin. It moved front than backed up turned and than swam in a large circular movement to get to the cheato. It swam against the current with no problem. It was translucent white or was reflecting light off it. Here is a pic of when i first set my system up cheato is much bigger now

Dorvilleidae, maybe? The ones I have seen in my tank had that corkscrew swimming..

Not from the vids i looked up. It didnt corkscrew to swim , it was just in that shape and had the legs or fin on one side.
