Ugh. I've been in denial. After about 10 days of Googling, I convinced myself that I was safe. But after posting a video on Instagram, two of my reefer friends immediately sent messages to "GET IT OUT NOW." :loudly-crying-face:

Now I debate peppermint shrimp vs lemon/lime injection.

try hydrogen peroxide. recently learned myself in a post here that it literally disintegrates aiptasia! i have yet to try it on a scoly frag i have. has about 3 heads quickly growing..

Yah ! You want to get rid of that puppy . You can also glue in into the rock if there’s no way for it to come out the other side . But since it doesn’t look like you have any coral on it , take it out and chisel the sucker out with a sharp knife and rinse and put back in tank . If you find more in the next week you might want to invest in a true peppermint shrimp .

F- aptasia or glue if you can remove. Peppermint shrimp too… you see 1 but there are likely more.

if that is gulf live rock then it is not typical aiptasia that is so dreaded. That's impossible because it isn't native there. (I literally can not say this enough... guys the ocean is large and it is fair to say some nems do look like the dreaded invasive aiptasia but are not...).

it is a relative or curley cue or bulb nem or such. They are not nearly as invasive. Even desirable for some who like diversity.

This is GLR! I'll be honest, I've been Googling for days (and I consider myself an amazing researcher, but obviously not always) and haven't seen anything quite like it in my "aiptasia" searches. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to purge it because well, I kinda like it? But I also plan to have some zoas long-term so I don't want to keep it around if it's going to smother the whole tank.

ya, the super fast spreading bugger is from indo-pacific.

Might be a baby corkscrew nem. The small ones don't always have curly tentacles but I do see striping.

They can form a symbiotic relationship with a certain species of pistol shrimp (can be bought on KPA aquatics).

THANK YOU for this. I was considering a pistol/goby combo anyway, but I might grab a pistol just to see what happens now. For Science. Worst case if it turns out to be concerning, there's still time/room to get a peppermint and treat as needed. :thinking-face:

It is a specific shrimp that doesn't pair with fish

However, I do know that nem shrimp like peterson's anemone shrimp will also sit on it. They are tiny though so can't be housed with certain fish who would like to eat em!

Could try sexy shrimp but they are not native so can't promise that one.

Either way, it needs to grow a bit before it would be a good host for something.

Sounds like I might just let it live and see how this plays out! Thank you so much!
