I don't think my 125 has enough drainage I have a 1 1/2 " durso and a quiet one 3000 return pump throttled way back. I have a lot of particles in the water column I feed heavy and use reef chili. I see a "film"like on the water surface.

My question is I would like to build a 5g bucket canister filter and not use the drain at all.

Would this work?

Does a canister filter suck water from the tank at high speeds or is it just draining into it?

I would like to be able to have as much turn over as my return pump could handle with out throttling it back. I have a sump/fuge I think it is a 30 gal that I want to fill from the canister.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Durso is open channel and not efficient. can you plumb again and use a Herbie?

Seems like a lot of work and fiddeling to get right. Can the canister filter not be used?

Using a little carbon for a few days will eliminate the slick, FYI. At most use the recommended dose on the package. Shouldn't be more than a 1/4 cup though. Change the carbon after a few days if there's still more "slick".

I bet your flow is fine. :)
