Not finding the food

I added my first fish about a week ago (2 clowns). I have a feeding ring that I put the food in so it doesn't get blown around and lost. They don't seem to know where to go for the food. They won't go anywhere by the ring where the food is. If I make one sink they'll go after it but they won't go to the top to eat at the ring. Will they ever get used to eating out of the ring? I'm worried they aren't eating and I also don't want to pollute my tank by trying to get food to sink and it get lost and decay in the tank. Any advise?

My clowns don’t or won’t eat from the surface. I tried sinking pellets but if they sink too fast they just leave them. I feed frozen food now, turn the pumps off and let them eat. They go nuts for it.
