75gal reef with 30gal sump.

I have shut it all down minus skimmer, no refugium, and one clown left. Done a 50% water change. Cleaning crew are snails and a lonely emerald crab.

I am checking levels manually as part of the frustration i pulled the plug on apex. Levels are ok, is there something I need to check specifically (phosphate?).

Please only "this will kill it advice" ...thank you.

Cyano?

I always get rid to cyano with patience and making sure no debris.

Since you want to try something that is a quick fix then chemiclean. It may return though.

I have used Chemiclean in the past and the Cyano didn't just return on its own. Only time it returned was after a fish died some other water related issue.

Try this so you can once again enjoy the tank:
First- check your phosphate and nitrate readings to see if they’re elevated.
Turn off the white lights for 6 days and reduce blues to 15%
siphon this up and clean filters. Clean filters the next 7 days.
During the day, add 1ml of liquid bacteria per 10 gallons.
At night, add 1.5ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons
DO NOT ADD ANY CORAL FOODS OR NOPOX TO THE TANK WHICH WILL FEED DINO
in the next couple of days, add a pouch of chemipure elite which will polish the water and keep the phosphate and nitrate levels in check.
Day 7 you should have your tank back !!
After treatment, add .5ml of peroxide at night for 2 weeks to keep things in check
Peroxide is harmless to fish and coral

patience buddy - your rocks all look very new still. it will go thru these ugly phases, completely normal - the more "quick solutions" and "chemical products" you add, the slower the maturation process will become. Check out my response to the other thread just now for "should i wait out the green" here:

looks like you are in the same boat.

I got rid of mine by dosing chemi clean and then after a week dosing Turbo Boost, or some other beneficial bacteria. Cyano forms because it out competes the beneficial bacteria for surface space. By dosing bacteria it stop cyano from being able to form.

At least for me, everyone has their theories.

Was your tank started with Dry Rock? Pretty normal part of the tank maturing if so...

Good to know but not good?! I keep reminding myself I am building a saltwater reef in my living room. If it was easy...everyone would be doing it!

Thank you for the multi way approach! It seems to cover it all.

It does. Tank not ready for a chemiclean or other chemical battle

The group is right. Wait it out and once your tank settles in the cyano will stop being a nuisance. I had some red cyano several months after restarting my tank but i don't have any visible now. It just went away.

What are your tanks parameters? no3, po4, alk, cal ,mg, temp, ph ,salinity so on and so on?
