I purchased a fabulous blue squamosa clam from Biota late summer. Upon arrival I picked off a pyramid snail from the shell..so I scrubbed the shell thoroughly with a toothbrush, thinking all would be good. I let Biota know what had happened. The clam at first thrived…growing as expected. But a couple weeks ago it started to look poorly…not opening as much, etc. I turned it over and, sure enough, pyramid snails attacking the byssal opening. I removed them all (maybe 3-4) and hoped for the best…but the clam never really recovered…slowly disintegrating until it died.
I emailed biota group days ago…letting them know what happened. No response. To me this is a failure on their part..not only ignoring my email, but selling a clam with an obvious parasite in the first place. Hopefully they’ll see this post and contact me to discuss…too bad I had to post it here to get their attention…or not.
In the meantime…my tank now has pyramid snails, endangering my other clam from a reputable seller (thank you Pacific East).

Biota has responded and offered to replace the clam…so this issue has been resolved.
