Not Sure About 'Nems....

I'm considering a pair of ocellaris clowns and I'm divided over whether to get a 'nem for them. Are there any they will host in that I wouldn't have to worry about finding that they've "traveled" and are ruining my corals? It would also have to be compatible with inverts....

I know clowns will host in Xenia but I'd rather not have something that's gonna take over XDD

Clowns will host darn near anything. If you've got a Nem, that doesn't mean they will just stay there. Nems will walk about the tank, so they aren't anything safe until they settle into a spot of their choice.

What lighting system do you have and tank size?

I have a pair of occellaris clowns and one is hosted by a sebae (h.crispa) and the other is hosted by a bubble tipped anemone. With the right water parameters and lighting, the anemone should not move much. My sebae has been in my tank for a couple of years now and has moved about 6". The reason it moved was I changed up the lighting. I have two bubble tipped and one has stayed put while the other has moved a bit, but I have only had them for a week.

I don't have a SW yet. This is future planning. Them and the 'nem (if I get one) will probably be the first occupants, though. I'm going to start with a FOWLR 50g (since I already have a 50, which is currently being used for FW fish that are soon to be moved to a 125) without the extra equipment (skimmer, sump etc) while I work on acquiring the money and equipment to set up a 90 or a 125, which will be gradually reefed XD. It currently has an Odyssea 48" double T5 fixture that provides quite a bit of light - more than I would have expected it to.

Nems shouldn't be one of the first inhabitants of a new tank. They require a bit more of a mature tank. And I'd use a 4 lamp T-5 HO unit for a Nem.

OK...maybe I'll add the nem later? I still need ideas for saf(er) species, though. I'm going to upgrade to a quad T5 before reefing.

EDIT: Someone else I was talking to has convinced me that 'nems are not for me, so...I won't be getting one.

You can always add one down the road. Need ideas for safe species for what? Species what won't eat Nems?

you are on the right track Eienna

the first thing you did right was ASK before you did anything.
the second thing you did right was your willingness to listen.
the third thing you did right was acknowledge that you are not ready at this time.
the fourth thing you did right was potentially save an anemone by not introducing one into a non established aquarium.

IMO you are a great candidate for becoming a responsible hobbyist. :thumb:

There are numberous fish out there for your tank that are peaceful, what kind are you looking for?
