Not sure if Cuprisorb caused tank water staining

Hi, everyone,

I have a 450 g FOWLR, and unfortunately, the tank recently had an ich outbreak, with subsequent superimposed bacterial/fungal infections. For the last 10 weeks, I treated the tank with cupramine, Kanaplex, Metroplex, Kick Ich. During the treatment, the UV sterilizer, protein skimmer, and lights were left off. Carbon was left out, as well.

After completing the 10 weeks of treatment, I restarted all of the above. I also placed 500 mL Cuprisorb in The Bag, and placed in the sump. The following morning, the tank water looked stained, tea-colored.

Do any of you have any idea as to what may have happened? Thanks in advance for any insight.

FYI: I rinsed the carbon media, but not the Cuprisorb (directions did not state to).

Nope. I've used both new Cuprisorb and recharged Cuprisorb and have never seen a tinting of water at all.

I wonder if this can be caused by metronidazole or kick-ich (active ingredient is also an imidazole), as the byproducts can act as pigments.

Any update on this? Have you tried adding activated carbon to your system?

Just saw this. Interestingly enough, i believe it was cuprisorb.

I soaked my 100g pouches in rodi for 5 minutes and the water turned tea color.

Cuprisorb is simply DI resin that Seachem has packaged and marketed for a specific use. I've used both new and recharged Cuprisorb. Never had it turn the water "tea color."
But then again, I've never just let it sit in my tank. It's always been placed in the HOB in a high flow area to remove copper. But when I've recharged it, it has been in a large glass measuring cup. After treating with muriatic acid, and then rinsing with RODI water, the water in the glass has always been crystal clear.

Im pretty sure it take a ***** lot of it, to make a large volume of water change color.

All I am saying, is 300g made a half gallon of rodi in a pitcher turn that color.

Specifically, it came from soaking one of those pre-loaded 100ml media bags from Seachem in RODI. Not saying it is harmful, just saying what it is.
