So this morning I noticed some white bumps on the side of my large clown trigger. He's been in this tank for 6 months, came from another stable, long term tank. All of his tank mates are happy and healthy with no signs of similar spots. He eats, swims, and is as active as the day we brought him home. Any ideas? There is a single dot on his right side, just above the natural spots, and a small cluster on his left, near his eye.

I would be very surprised if it was ich, just because of the amount of time all the fish have been in the tank together. No changes in this system for several months, with the exception of a heater change. But, definite possibility.

i guess we will find out in a few days. ick can live undetected in a system for months by harboring in the gills. im not saying thats what it is for sure, just that it could be. its pretty large for ick, but hard to tell from a picture. sorry I cant be more exact for you

Oh no I really appreciate it. I knew ich was a pretty hardy pest, just thought it more or less went for the weak and sick.

It only takes one thing to happen in the tank (like a new fish being added, or a broken heater) to let ick get a better foot-hold and show itself. Sometimes you'll only see a few spots and then nothing for a couple months. Or you'll see a few spots, then a few more, then fish start dying and everybody is sad. It can go both ways.
