So, I have a powder brown a blue hippo and a yellow tang in a 150g long, they’re happy been happy for awhile now, I just got a blue tang juvenile (Atlantic or carribean not sure) however I want to know if he can go in the 150g? Currently he’s about 2.25” still acclimating in my 30g Xh, I know he will outgrow it fast that’s why I’m asking if I can put him with the other tangs, also he’s been in the same spot heavy breathing for 6 hours now( since I received him today) anything I need to do? Feed? Light on? (Lights been off for 6 hrs) can’t get a reply unless I post in this forum and I can’t find any answers about my specific situation so, some input please?

If you just got him. I would qt him for at least 30 days. He'll be fine in there till then. He's probably stressed out right now, I'd leave the lights off and just observe for now. If he shows signs of anything it will be easier to treat in the 30 gallon vs the display.

He's actually doing fine, pretty scared but got his color back, my 30g is my tank, my parents have a 150g when he gets bigger, hes a beautiful fish for a few months in here though lol. Anyways fed some live brine shrimp and he colored right up, still skittish but coming out a little. Slowly but surely. Here's a pic.

I didnt have the way to qt him or the 2 harlequins I got today, I skipped acclimation on him bc he didnt look good, he's a great fish though. My favorite along with the chevron and purple.

How aggressive is your Powder Brown and Yellow? Those two would be the most likely to give him problems.

They’re actually not very aggressive, they seem to do well with anything no fighting or anything

This is my thought — powder browns are nasty acanthurus tangs and they’re not likely to love another tang. Also, a 30g should only be used for 30-45 days for a quarantine. Tangs need lots of space to swim and the stress could cause this fish some issues. I love carribean blues, they get so large so fast, and they can be aggressive but they’re also prone to bullying in my experience. I’ve never been able to figure out why but I’ve never added one that went “well” quickly. Your two resident tangs are likely to have a big problem with another competitor being added.

I also second the need for proper treatment with copper or cp prior to addition.

So basically get a bigger tank for my blue tang? He’s about 2” rn how long will it be before he will start to stress at the 30g? Here’s a pic also
