So it feels like I've hit a wall and over whelmed. I've started my 40G tank 3 weeks ago filled it with water sand and rock. I purchased a tidal 110 hob, heater and powerhead. Day one I added half a bottle (2oz) of Fritz's turbo 900 day two I purchased a clownfish and added the second half of the 4oz bottle. I've left it alone for two weeks and done a water change throughout that time I periodically check the water parameters and they were perfect. Few day later roughly day 18 I purchased a lawnmower blenny I am trying to be a bit pro active and get some utilitarian fish so when I turn a light on the tank it'll help with the expected algae problem. So now I hit a brick wall I'm not sure what to do next.

* Should I be expecting a spike in my water parameters at this point ?
* Should I add more fish ? If so how many and how soon ?
* I need to buy a light it's crazy expensive but should that be my next purchase ? Should my next step be to turn the lights on ?
*At this point what do I run in my hob ? Carbon, filter floss ?

Thanks to you who have took the time and read this your inputs are greatly appreciated!

I think you should be watching ammonia and Nitrite to zero, and nitrates to rise, indicating cycling is maturing. Hold off on more livestock until done cycling. You might add microbacter 7 daily.

I would maybe add another clownfish, its always best to have a pair, but its best to add them at the same time. I would say just buy the fish and maybe a new light, because thats a great investement and something you are definetly going to need. I would recommend AI Prime 16HD. Its about $250 CAN, so like $200 USD. Its good because it allows you to set a schedule for when the lights turn on/off, and set the color spectrum.
1 more clown, new light (whatever one you want), and then leave the tank for a month or two before doing anything else. Hopefully your clowns will pair up and not hate each other, thats why its best to add them both at the same time. Happy reefing dude

I used Dr. Tim's this time I set my tank up about a month ago. I never really saw much of a spike in anything. I read a little ammonia and nitrites went to 0.5 on my red sea kit as well as a nitrates as expected but, it only lasted a few days. Couple of water changes and everything zeroed but, nitrate. Slowly add fish, this gives bacteria time to establish to your tanks demands. I kept chemi-pure where the water flows back to the tank and kept cheato in the big compartment when I had a hob.

You are moving too fast too soon.
I guess by having a clown fish on 2nd day, it meant that you took cycling with fish route.

What do you measure about water parameter and how are they over these 3 weeks?

The tank will undergo an ugly phase, and it will be better if you don't light up tank at least not until the ugly phase is over.
