So I just got done with a water change and glanced over to check on my top off water to make sure I still had a decent amout of water in there.. I took a closer look then usual and noticed the bottom of the container looked weird. Like there was stuff floating around.. So I empied all the water out of there and noticed a bunch of weird slim coating the whole bottom of the container.. Needless to say im soaking it with hot water and vinegar over night. Along with the tubing and maxi jet I use that runs to my sump.. With the pump on so it can run though the hose all night.. But Im wonering if that could be the source of my PO4 issues? Been having issues with PO4.. Can't seem to keep it low for more then 3 or 4 days. I change the GFO and its down for a couple of days.. Then it shoots back up.. Im hoping I just nipped the issue in the butt.. What do you think?

What type of container are you using?

Im using the BRUTE rubbermaid 20 gallon trash can. Its the Reef Safe one ;)

Considering the container is for potable water and the r.o. used is good, you have nothing to worry about. I have a 25 gallon mixing container and residue over time is normal. Different salts may leave more residue than others but it will collect over time. The residue is brown'ish. I clean my container once a month. I use a filter sock on the outlet when filling jugs for my water change. It strains loose particles. If in doubt of the quality, test it.

I had that happen before. I could not isolate what happened but it has not happened again, yet.

Ok so not out of the norm. I just need to stay on top of cleaning that thing out once a month or so. But im really hoping that was the cause of the PO4.. I can't afford all that GFO! lol
