Yeah seems like there is two different things growing. See what happens lol.If you are referring to the two little stubby things in the middle of the picture, I would agree that it is probably some sort of soft coral. The tiny little reddish dots look like coraline to me as well.
IMHO, that is one of the coolest things about marine tanks - the "Huh - never saw that before - just what the heck is it" It still happens now, over 30 years after I started.
Enjoy!!!

The rock was bought at local fish store. I believe he said it was live rock that came from one of their curing tanks.Head-forming crustose coralline algae. I'd safely bet my life on it and I'm not a betting man. Considering the age of the tank, at three weeks, and the relative lack of life on the surrounding rock and the fact that I have seen this numerous times is how I am making this deduction. It means things are doing well as you proceed through the cycling process. Another thing that piques my curiosity is what is the source and type of rock it is on. Was it live, dry, other? Not to discredit the opinions of others, I'm just dubious it is a soft coral with the available information. Sure would be awesome if it is a coral.
When you got it was it still damp? The rock was bought at local fish store. I believe he said it was live rock that came from one of their curing tanks.
