I found this on ebay and was wondering if this would work for my first reef aquarium?

Depends on what size tank you have and what all you will be keeping in there.

my buddy has one over a 20 regular, and it supports good growth on Xenia, Leathers, Zoas, and Mushrooms.

Plus that is a deal for this light !! I almost want to buy it lol
