now that I threw out my canister filter

Canister gone, sump up and running now. Question is, if I want to run some carbon, can I just dunk a media bag in the sump until I get a reactor,if necessary or is that a waste due to not a great amount of agitation?

It surely won't hurt.

A reactor is much more effective. But till you get one, a good quality carbon in a bag in a high flow area of the sump will help.
