Okay I’ve been interested in a lot of echinoderms and nudibranchs lately. I’ve had a burgundy sea star for a good while and a pincushion urchin. I was thinking of adding a couple of nudibranchs but I hate how they have specialized feeding. Anyone know of any nudibranchs that will actually feed very well? I was thinking about finding either a Xenia or gsp eating nudibranch and I could replenish their food supply when I need to with a 5 dollar frag at the lfs. Is this a good idea? Also any good suggestions on cucumbers urchins and more stars? I don’t have corals in this tank cause I’ve got a really nippy angelfish and a tailspot Blenny so this tank is kind of just for fun little inverts.

It seems as though the lettuce slugs don’t eat nori. Are the adults 100% photosynthetic? Or do they need to eat. Does anyone know if the smaller coral eating nudibranchs are a good idea?

Lettuce nudibranchs (Elysia spp.) are technically kleptoplastic. This means that they need to eat algae to continuously replenish they're symbiotic chloroplasts. So if you can find a good supply of their primary food source (usually bryopsis) then you should be fine.

Be sure to see how often they need to eat too. You don't want to have to buy a $5 frag every day. The lettuce slugs will eat caulerpa. I understand that angelfish do too. What size is your tank?

What is your algae selection like?
The wedge sea hare is a slug that eats nori. I had one for a while.

A costly one that also is supposed to eat nori is the Chamberlain Nudibranch. They are hard to find though and you will probably have to put a special order in and wait.

It’s a pretty small tank, 14 gallons. This is going to be less of a clean up crew member and more of something that I will target feed and such. The coral eating nudibranch would work well cause I can’t have corals in my tank, my angel fish always tears them up but I really like him. So my plan right now is to find a cool slug/nudibranch and get some other cool inverts. Any good sea cucumbers that won’t get nipped to death?

I like these two a lot, I would like to find one with more of a distinguishable appearance though. Since it’s not a part of the clean up crew I want it to be noticeable and not a little blob, but I do like these two.

I know what species of Red Sponge the Greek Goddess Nudibranch consumes, However the Sponge is protected in South Florida you can only legally collect what washes up and barely anything washes up.

Elysia chlorotica look nice, but keeping them may be difficult if you cannot source a supply of Vaucheria or grow it yourself. Any of the sacoglossans would be nice aquarium specimens as long as you can keep up with their dietary demands.
