Just went to LFS and saw this sad hang-on with lots of nudis. As you may know, each type has a different diet and are hard to feed. But they live in this tiny box with nothing. I’m sure they pick out the dead ones as they die and sell them to unsuspecting customers and order more as needed. There are things about this hobby that frustrate me.

I ha(d) a lfs like that. The owner constantly sold things that had no place being sold. Anyone with money could get whatever. A huge elegance that was probably close to a foot an a half across to a guy who didnt even know what lighting he had. Or anything about his system other than the size of it. 65. I had spent a decent amount of money at that store 2 visits prior. After getting the colonys home to aclimate they where COVERED IN FLATWORMS. To a point where there was no way he would not have seen. I told the guy buying the elegance "You should probably dip that" (it had come from the same system as the colony and torch I had got just a few days prior.) Which he looked at me like he had no clue what i was talking about. But the owner happily took his 200+ dollars and he left. A couple visits later the owner told me he wasnt going to sell to me or who i came in with because it was "rude" for me to have recommended to that coustomer to dip. Haha. Most places I go to RECOMMEND to any coustomer to dip. That guy is a real character. I unfortunately had a gift card to there too so I was getting RO there. My last an final visit the dude said some really nasty stuff.

I understand the point of running a business is to make money. But if you rip off or cheat customers without the intent of helping them, your business won’t be as prosperous as the next one. Unfortunately many LFS don’t care. Yesterday I saw some mandarin fish in a BB tank. I asked the owner how long he’s had them, he said a week. I give them one more week to live.

The store I made the other comment about does the same. Mandarins, All types of wrasses and other things. BB an completely bare in the aspect of hiding places.

I live in Hong Kong at the moment and am curious - as my LFS does this - they prebag fish for people to buy. So you’ll see clownfish, eels, triggers, you name it. All prebagged with a price written on it.

I'm lso in hk with my reef and alway avoid these shops. There is one shop in particular that looks like a refugee camp for fish. If your looking to buy the better shops are above street level in the residential buildings. [emoji12]

I agree that some LFS just have no morals when it comes to life, but plenty of greed when it comes to money. But there is good circulating around those bad owners sometimes. I was constantly going to the same LFS here as I normally did kinda made friends with a few employees, I have a 200gallon mixed reef and a 180gallon FOWLR and one day one of the guys call me and says I need to stop by so I did as they were only 5mins away at the time. I walk in and he asked if I seen anything wrong knowing I'm always a smart A@$ but always in fun, anyhow I walked around and I see a Vlamingi about 10" in maybe an 8gallon tank I about lost it, the poor thing could barely turn around. I looked at the employee that called me and he said yep. Said the owner purchased him to sell but didn't wanna set up one of the new tank they had so that he could have room, he was in there 3days with a 375.00 price tag. No he is a beautiful fish so being me and having the space I told him that I'd take him he says he new I would and also that my tank would give him enough room for the time being. He sets me up I get to check out and he had marked the fish down to 50.00 I go back and ask him and he said that fish deserves better and the owner could cry about it later. This guy lost his job and the owner decided to have some choice words with me but I politely explained that if he wasn't such a greedy, heartless, inadequate FS owner he would see that he could gain more from doing the right thing rather than trying to cramp and overstock for profit. I recieved an apology phone call from him about 2 weeks later and he gave me praise for saying it straight. Changed his ways in the store and actually gave me a couple gifts. Now when I go in there everything seems to have its place, and it's way more pleasing to the heart and eyes. The young guy got his job back and a raise also. HAPPY REEFING EVERYONE...

Yeah. I go to one that’s one floor up. They have LRS foods there. Also off to the side of goldfish street, there’s a place with beautiful tanks and corals called something like coral galaxy. A bit pricy but if you want something nice, it’s worth it to pay a bit more

Yes I actually found a great shop 2 weeks ago. K corals I think it was. Pricy but excellent quality and sometimes if you buy 3 pieces it's 50% off so it works out OK [emoji16].

That may be the one I’m thinking about. They still have Christmas decorations up in the front right? If so, they’re pretty good. The owner offered me a discount on a purple tip anemone. But it was still too expensive.

Ah I didn't pay attention to any decor that wasn't in the tank lol. Possibly. Its got a beautiful tank in the window and another the same size just on the right as u go in. And a rear section where they build and design systems also with about 10 desplay tanks. I think it's on nullah Rd

Yes. That’s exactly the one. I just found out last time I went there that it’s shaped like an L and there are more tanks in the back. He showed me how to feed the anemones. He took some dead clowns and put them in the mouths. The anemones were so healthy. Compared to the place that’s all blue on the main strip - they have BTA floating in the tanks, shriveled up and just shoved in tanks.
