So, so you think there is an ethical limit to the number of fish in a tank as long as there is no aggression and nutrients/ammonia are under control?

You know, aside from "packed so full they can't move"?
 
Yes, each tank is different, but the end game is pretty much the same. Either your tank can or cannot handle the nutrients. Either your fish selections do or do not get along. Either you have dormant parasites that would be exasperated by a high population, or you have perfect quarantine. Etc.
 
Unfortunately it has a lot to do with the needs of the particular fish......some require more room due to them constantly grazing the reefs in the ocean.....some prefer to stake out a chuck of rock and remain. While nutrients and aggression are important, there are some other factors to consider.
 
100% agree. And that's where it comes down to specifics.

But what if you want a 500 clown harem, or a bajillion anthias.
