Nutrient export hat trick

I have seen a few reefers who run a skimmer, refugium and an algae scrubber, when is it too much or does it work collectively?!!!
I would think that the fuge and scrubber are working against one another, but these two concepts are new to me.

It's going to depend on how much you need to export.

If you're feeding really heavy and have lots of fish, then you might need a scrubber and refugium.

I think for most, a refugium and skimmer will be more than enough. Personally I just have a skimmer and a lots of love rock in my sump.
