Preferred and most stable method of nitrate and phosphate removal? Preference would be natural. Thoughts?

For me, tried everything, found that simple bi-weekly water changes (or weekly if you have the time) do the trick. Consistent changes too. Also depends on the size of your system and your no3 and po4 levels are at exactly

It all depends on who you ask...
Are you looking for a strictly organic way to remove nutrients? If so, you're best bet would be to grow and harvest macroalgae. One of the most common ways of doing so is to grow macros in a refugium. If, however, you do not have the space in your sump for this there are other methods such as UV sterilizers and Algae Scrubbers.

Fuge with chaeto, regular water changes and heavy protein skimming. Works for decades and still cannot be beaten IMO.

Once your tank gets going, you can harvest frags and colonies, but this can take a few years.

65g Reefer 250 (54 DT + 11 sump)
tank is only a few months old.
started with Live Pukani (~40#) & Dry Reef Flake sand
Started tank with Dr Tims & have been dosing with Microbacter
Seeded sand and rock with sand/rock from extremely mature SPS tank.
Nitrates ~7-10 (Salifert) & Phosphates .273 (Hanna ULR Phos)
LIvestock: 2 clowns, 4 chromis, 2 emerald, ~6 various snails, ~6 blueleg
Reef Octopus 110int & DIY chaeto reactor.
water changes weekly at this point.

+1 to the above. Agreed that some chaeto should do the trick, and a tank that size small consistent water changes should knock that po4 down

Just remember to test test test and find out the system that works for you. (ie, weekly water change, exact feeding schedule, etc) .. you will figure it out soon enough and be able to tell and forecast what your #s will be doing based on your schedule.

I'm creating an sps Dom tank. Sounds like I should consider a larger sump with fuge for chaeto. Any issues with fuge and sps? Or perhaps I could run automatic water change with Apex dos.
