Some of you read that, as a challenge, I started a completely dry tank (10 gallon) for a nem display.
Boy, what a challenge it has been lol

After battling a dino bloom the past month or so, I finally beat it after adding a uv filter and getting the nutrients where I want them. Nitrates at 5 and phosphates and 0.03 (wanted 0.02) but it’s been holding at 0.03 without dosing and through water changes.
I know that’s not a “true” reading since some is being absorbed by algae. I have a skimmer but don’t necessarily want to put it on. Also have some leftover chemipure blue and elite that I stopped using a while back. As of right now, I just run carbon every month for a day.

Alas, a new problem, hair algae. It’s not so much the places I can reach because it’s easy enough to manage until cuc starts to take care of it. It’s the places I can’t reach. Some in the back and to the side that my hands and tongs can’t go. As long as an inch or so in some areas.

Cuc is 5 astraea, 5 blue leg hermits, 2 nerites, a handful of Ceriths, and probably 4-5 stomatella. Inhabitants are: sapphire damsel, anemone crab, 5 rock nems.
I needed to place another order so I went for scarlet hermits, astraea (to replace because these guys are lazy), and trochus.

What’s the best game plan here? Other tanks don’t have algae issues so I figure whatever this tank doesn’t need, I’ll toss in the others.
